Welcome
to the City of Norton, Virginia!

The City of Norton,
the smallest independent city in Commonwealth of Virginia with a
2000 population of 3,904, is located in the “arrowhead portion”
of Virginia approximately 20 miles from the Kentucky state line
and 45 miles from the Tennessee state line. The City is located
at 36 Deg 66’ 00” North latitude, 82 Deg 37’ 45”
West longitude, with an elevation ranging from 2,000’ to 3,965’.
Most interesting
about the City of Norton is that its population masks its true
size and importance as a regional hub for finance, healthcare,
professional services, and retail. According to a 2000 “into”
commuting pattern prepared by the US Census and listed on the
Virginia Employment Commission website, 5,000 individuals from
surrounding Virginia counties drive into the City daily to work,
while 179 drive from Kentucky and 71 drive from Tennessee. As
of March 2006 the City of Norton unemployment rate was 5.6%.
The City of
Norton’s local economy is largely supported by retail, hotels/motels,
food services, and healthcare. In fact, the City maintains a top
five ranking of all Virginia counties and cities for per capita
retail sales.
Since 1990,
two Fortune 500 companies, Verizon and AT&T, have had facilities
located in our community. There are many advantages for locating
in the City of Norton and we look forward to working with you
to show how your company can benefit from all that Norton has
to offer.
